What is the difference between a Chiropodist and a Podiatrist?
There is no significant difference between Chiropodists and Podiatrists in the province of Ontario. Both are primary health care providers specializing in the treatment of lower limb disorders. They are regulated by the same governing body (College of Chiropodists of Ontario).
In 1980, the Ontario government adopted the UK foot care model. The term “Chiropodist” has since been used to describe foot care professionals in Ontario. Chiropodists are generally trained in the United Kingdom or Canada, while podiatrists are typically trained in the United States. Since 1993, no podiatrist designations have been granted in Ontario, and those holding the title Podiatrist registered to practice in Ontario before 1993.
